• You MUST first determine that you are heading for
terrain that is appropriate for your skiing ability--Green circles only!
Because each ski area has its own policy regarding rope
tows and lifts and situations vary tremendously from lift to lift, we will only
provide some general pointers.
• Do not attempt to assist anyone if you are a beginner
yourself. Ask for assistance if you need it.
T-bars are similar to rope tows in that they are surface
lifts. This means that your skis slide on the snow as you ascend.
T-bars accommodate two skiers. Other related lifts (J-bars
and Pomas) are for single riders. If you have a partner, make sure he knows how
to use a T-bar.
Remove your poles and hold them in the outside hand, (the
hand away from the bar.)
Step into the "loading" area and point the ski
tips up the track that the other riders have made.
Balance evenly on both skis and flex legs slightly. When
the attendant "loads" you, look to the inside and grab the pole with
the inside hand. Hold the "T" with the other hand as the attendant
positions it at your bottom.
• Don't sit down! Keep standing and have the lift pull
you up the hill.
• Keep the skis in the track at all times.
• When off-loading, hold the bar with the inside hand as you move to the side,
then let go.
• If you ride with someone, the outside skier gets off first, then the inside
skier holds the bar until he's able to exit.
