- Garlands are "fake" turns. You start a turn,
but at the point at where you begin facing down the flow line, you reverse
the turn. You never cross the flow line, making a zigzag traverse instead.
Begin in a diagonal traverse with all joints flexed
comfortably and your upper body facing down the hill.
Make a short turn by leading with the downhill ski.
Just before you face down the flow line, stop the turn and
carve back into a traverse.
- Feel your downhill ski roll from inside edge to outside
edge
- Feel the downhill foot roll from big toe to little toe.
- Feel your center of mass moving down the hill as you
roll your foot to its little toe side.
Swing the pole to help your momentum.
Make sure that it is only your downhill foot and leg that
are turning the ski. If your upper body maintains its position facing down the
flow line, it should take little effort to change direction.
Tips:
- Keep your upper body countered to face down the flow
line.
- Move your center of mass down the flow line.
- Stay loose and flexed with light contact between your
shins and the tongues of your boots--stay in the Sweet spot.
- Maintain a consistent turn shape and carry your
momentum from turn to turn.
- Adjust your edge and pressure movements to aid in the
flow from turn to turn.
