• Practice turning on the outside ski
first--see previous exercise: Outside-only turns.
Note: This is a relatively difficult exercise,
so don't feel discouraged in your efforts. It's OK if you don't get it right as
described--it is worth trying though, even if you just feel like you're doing it
right.
Stand with your skis facing across the slope. Lift the
downhill ski while staying in balance.
Touch the tip of the downhill ski to the snow and gently
brush it away (down the hill) from the other ski. If you are relaxed and
maintain your balance, the action will "pull" the uphill ski down into
the flow line and start a glide.
While gliding, continue to keep only the tip of the lifted
ski on the snow--as it comes around the turn and crosses the flow line (becoming
the inside/uphill ski,) roll it to the uphill edge by opening the thigh and
directing the inside knee up the hill.
You should have completed a turn.
As soon as you've crossed the flow line, stand on the
uphill ski and lift the downhill ski. Touch its tip, brush it away and down the
hill, then roll it to the little toe edge.
Work one into the next.
Get comfortable with the action, then take it to moderate
terrain.
Tips:
- Keep the upper body facing slightly down the hill.
- Have trust and confidence in your skis.
- Try to stay in the Sweet spot.
